Day #8 - He's Just Not That Into You

This film follows nine individuals as they navigate the complicated world of love and relationships - unrequited love, difficulties in marriage, non-committal boyfriends, and many more. At its core is Gigi who misreads the actions of all of her dates, so Alex swoops in to help her out.

I love an ensemble cast film - Love Actually, Valentines Day, New Year's Eve are all favourites of mine - and He's Just Not That Into You is my number one favourite in this category. I love seeing all these individual storylines slowly intertwine into a very neatly tied up ending that gives all the characters what they needed.

Aside from just being a great movie, it also has a great message about self-worth and not letting those who don't deserve you take advantage of you. It starts out with the bold observation that every little girl is told that if a boy is mean to you that means they like you, and they take this into adulthood - when a guy isn't calling, he's just playing hard to get, and you should give him the benefit of the doubt. It also gives the reality check of just because a friend of a friend was the dating exception, doesn't mean you will be. This may sound depressing, but then it flips and shows you that you will always find that one person who will make you the exception to the rule. ​This is a movie that I always put on without fail when I am having my own dating difficulty and it gives me the reality check I need and then lifts me up so that I can confidently try again.

He's Just Not That Into You is funny, it's frustrating, it's heartwarming, and it's so relatable (especially in your 20s). And the exceptional cast makes it the perfect cozy night watch.
