Thoughts on the EU Referendum results 4 days on....

As you know, Britain voted to leave the EU in the referendum on Thursday, much to the dismay of a lot of people who wished to stay a member.

If I had been able to vote, I personally would have voted remain however I am under the legal voting age. I was able to convince some family members who were unsure to vote remain to try and make sure remain was the final vote. And it looked as if it would be when the votes were starting to be counted at 10pm and into the early hours of the morning. Unfortunately this ended up not being the case.

Here are some things that happened in the aftermath of the final vote:
  • The value of the British pound dropped by 10%.
  • As the stock markets opened on the Friday morning the value of the markets dropped by 7% in 6 minutes.
  • David Cameron resigned as PM, leaving possible candidates to take over the role to be Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and Michael Gove.
  • Nigel Farage also went back on the promise of funds of £305million to the NHS.
  • Talk of a new 'Brexit' government was proposed, led by Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and Jeremy Corbyn.
It isn't looking good for Britain currently. Scotland and Northern Ireland are also talking about getting independence from the UK. There isn't a lot of stability in the country currently with a split between remain and leave voters. There has also been a petition going around to have a re-vote, allegedly head by a leave voter who has "seen the error of his ways" as BuzzFeed reported earlier today.

And to be honest, I am scared. The future is looking even more uncertain for me than it did before. With talks of another major recession in the next couple of years and the current instability of the economy the future doesn't look great and like it contains more fear than previously. However, all we can do right now is wait out of the next few weeks and see what happens. As the British public, all we can do is be patient and see how the situation develops.

Everyone is worried right now. But we don't have control over the situation anymore - the vote has been and gone so we just need to wait. No matter how hard waiting is.
